House of Bid

How to read start bids, standing bids, and estimates

The start bid is the opening ask on a housed lot. Once someone bids, the standing bid is the live market. Typical sold ranges shown when we name a lot are comparable-sale helpers, not appraisals. Event $199 and Yard $79 are seller SKUs — not what a lot will hammer for.

Where do I see prices as a bidder?

Each lot card and lot page shows the start or standing bid in dollars. Selected lots on the homepage use the same figures. Walk-through directories on other sites often have no clock and no paddle — those are not House of Bid lots.

Where do sellers see prices?

Families see Event and Yard on /pricing. Auction houses receive the Managed House rate card by email after ops approve the invitation. That split matches how Proxibid treats seller onboarding versus open bidder signup.

Questions

Is the start bid a reserve?

Not automatically. A seller can set a minimum on lots they know are valuable. Unmet reserves do not silently convert to a shipped invoice.
